Linda J. Williams

American Midwest Artist

Evident in each captivating and alluring composition is Linda’s strong sense of color, intuitive sense of space, and organic and sensuous interpretation of her subject. Passionate about nature she exposes the detailed qualities of her subjects, shown in many of her close-up images. Her vision shows the viewer that which is often overlooked and taken for granted. Linda’s expressive style is influenced by her extensive graphic design and photography background.

She loves the joy of discovery, manipulating photos taken from her journeys until she has achieved the right combination for her vision. She then paints them in pastels or oils working wet-on-wet.

She shares a similar love of organic and rhythmic shapes and has been influenced by the work of Georgia O’Keefe. Inspired by the work of many Impressionists as well as some modern-day artists, some of her favorites are: John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, Auguste Renoir, Vincent Van Gogh, Edgar Degas, Wassily Kandinsky, Daniel Gerhartz, Kevin Macpherson, Richard Schmid, Jim McVicker, Scott Christensen.

Linda started drawing and painting in oils at a young age. She was awarded an art scholarship to the University of Wisconsin, taking first place for a pen and ink drawing. Her art education continued at the American Academy of Art. She received her BA in visual communication from University of Illinois at Chicago focusing on design, photography, and digital imagery. Linda owned a design studio and worked as a graphic designer for many years and also worked at an ad agency in Chicago. She holds a degree in interior design which rounds out her design sensibilities.

She has produced personal and corporate commissioned artwork. Her work has appeared in galleries, exhibitions and has won awards. It has been featured in Voyage Chicago, Art & Life with Linda Williams, Chicago City Guide, Fox Valley Magazine and The Art Marketing Blog: Flootie.com.

Linda’s studio is located in Poplar Grove, Illinois, and her chocolate and black labs, Nova and Luna, are her curious and charming companions.

Purple Dahlia

When I was vacationing in Minnesota in the summer, there were so many beautiful things that inspired me — serene lakes surrounded by pine trees, amazing skies and cloud formations, not to mention the log cabin I stayed in. But this group of red dahlias in a wooden barrel planted right outside the lodge caught my eye.

You can see my process under the BLOGS section to see how it ended up as a painting. Hope you like it!

Original oil painting is available.
30″w x 30″h deep sides – 1 1/2″ unframed
Premier 100% cotton, gallery-wrapped and hand splined. The sides are painted as an extension of the front with no need for framing.

Red Flowers Clear Vase

Painted mostly with my fingers not a brush, this vibrant oil painting has lots of energy and color and has a beautiful wooden frame.

Flower Contours

Vibrant solid colors and flowing contours transition to subtle, almost translucent ones which create an extremely delicate, ethereal beauty exemplary in nature.
